ME Production eyes role in Arctic patrol vessel programme

ME Production, based in Frederikshavn in Northern Denmark, is positioning itself to supply propulsion gear systems for Denmark’s upcoming Arctic patrol vessels.

The project, aimed at strengthening Denmark’s presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic, also presents an opportunity to bring local industrial capabilities into play.

With more than 50 years of production experience in Frederikshavn, ME Production is Denmark’s only manufacturer of large-scale reduction gear systems for medium- and high-speed engines. All production and core competencies remain anchored locally.

According to the company, a potential contract could have a direct impact on local employment and economic activity in the Frederikshavn area.

“Projects like this are not only about delivering technology, but also about supporting local jobs and maintaining specialised industrial competencies in Denmark,” says Kim Pedersen, CCO at ME Production.

The company has delivered around 1,500 gear systems  globally, many of which remain in operation after more than 30 years. Its solutions are used on a wide range of larger naval and offshore vessels, including frigates, patrol vessels, rescue vessels and icebreakers. Recent orders within the NATO segment further support its current activity level.

Looking ahead, ME Production sees continued opportunities in both Danish and international naval projects, with Frederikshavn as its operational base.
